Well real syrup is with Promethazine w/ codeine in liquid form..
but Robitussin works well to, like a generic version.

The classic way is to mix it with Sprite, but Wayne and many other uses Hawaiin punch.
You can use anything pretty much..

Jolly Ranchers are added for flavor and ice for tempture.

And the double ( or Wayne style tripple) styrofoam cups are added for fun
It''s just how it originated.

its called DXM and it makes ya lean too but its not as hardcore as prometh
