bane's more than just the henchman he was portrayed he was portrayed as in batman & robin. he's actually a criminal genius who broke batman's back in the comics.

as for saying this won't be anything without heath ledger, i doubt they would have used the joker character in this third batman at all, if not just a cameo like they did with the 'scarecrow' character. batman begins was fantastic.

christopher nolan is a genius, his filmography proves that. so i think it's fair to give your full faith in him for the third and final movie.
