The year's 2 best action films (so far) are in theatres RN, and both are must-see films. But which film reigns supreme?
STORY
This category has a clear winner. The MI films were never known for their stories, and final reckoning proves that more than ever. (It was terrible). While thunderbolts was a nice (touching) surprise, that actually cared more about the investment of it's characters than the mayhem they inevitebly cause.
WINNER: Thunderbolts
ACTION
This is the hardest category to decide. Every Mission Impossible film has atleast 1 goat action sequence in it (sometimes more) and final reckoning is no exception. However, there are quite a few impressive one-shot sequences in Thunderbolts that rival/surpass any hand to hand combat scene in MI: final reckoning, even though the plane sequence in final reckoning is more impressive than anything in the entire thunderbolts film.
But because the action in thunderbolts is more evenly paced out, I have to give the edge to it.
WINNER: Thunderbolts
VERDICT
Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning is a must-see film that would've been recieved better had it come out earlier. but the bar has been raised, and thunderbolts came just a little closer to raising it than MI: final reckoning was able to. Both are must-see films, but see thunderbolts faster.
Mission impossible: Final Reckoning
(9.25)
Thunderbolts
(9.5)
