What are the criteria? is it time based? does it only have to be lyrically "perfect"? or does the production have to be classical as well? I'm just hearing a lot of people mentioning this album is a classic, but by what criteria?

Re: How Do You Define a Classic Rap Album??
Was Gonna Make A Thread Like This Yesterday.
Length? Nah. Just Look At Illmatic. Can't Be Argued That It's One Of The Best And It's Only 33-35 Minutes. I Believe.
A Mixture Of Production Is Need. Not All The Beats Have To Be Heavy. Just Look At MBDTF. Heavy Beats Like All Of The Lights. And Not So Heavy Beats Like So Appalled.
Kinda Needs To Have A Concept. And Some Sort Of Story.
Definitely Needs Emotion, And Variety.

Re: How Do You Define a Classic Rap Album??
hmm. i dont think its so easily defined.
there isnt just a certain criteria that you check off.
to make a classic album. there has to be an energy to it.
thats especially the case with wayne. when theres a driving force.
to his performances. is how you end up with something like carter two.
and i think a lot of that could be inspired by classic production.
or just being in a zone. the way wayne was for so long.
i think it starts with an artist making art as opposed to a product.
and then just hope that you capture the right moments from there.
idk. classic is a funny thing to try and define.
