Trust me you don't want dreads unless you have a big afro already. If you have a small afro it's gonna look ugly af for awhile but it gets better eventually. I'm growing my dreads out now.

Yeah, or braid it so it'll grow then dread it. When you get dreads dont redo it too often or they'll break off from the roots.

Grow them sooner rather than later. If you're trying to get a white collar job after college, and make real money, you can't have dreads. So get it out of your system now...

Oh, and to answer your question, I think they'll look like shit, at least for a very long time until they're nice and grown out.

Just cheat and grow it out long and keep it how you want it, then when it gets to the right length get it permed to go fuzzy so it will knot easier, then get your hairdresser to backcomb it into dreds using the right hair stuff. When you backcomb you will lose a fair bit of length so you have to make room for that.
