Serious Discussion: What do you define as "Lyrical" (No Trolling)
Lyrical is when you got something worth rapping for imo. Like your rapping for reasons, something you believe in, or something that has happened in your life.
Immortal Technique , IMO , is the best lyrically right now. Vinnie Paz next but thats just because I'm into underground .
I'm open minded to mainstream and think people like Nas, Jay , Kanye, Yelawolf, Hopsin, Pusha , Cole, Kendrick are pretty dope lyrically.
Example of a nice lyrical freestyle, again IMO,
The borders should be illegal instead of the people, who were here before the bible and all of its sequels
I personally don't think story telling means you're amazingly lyrical however it does display creativity and subject matter though. In terms of a rapper being lyrical or more lyrical than another artist for me means that an artist can use complex ryhming schemes. This would include wordplay, multi-ryhming, flow, creativity etc.
My prime example of a raw lyrical artist would be Eminem. Story telling included in being lyrical is a plus purely because people can far more relate to a rap song that is on their level of understanding and something they can relate to in real life (hence why Eminem and Nas, others are very high up in terms of respect for rapping). Also for me, rap that you can relate to like that is what the musics about, speaking to the people, fans, making a personal impact on their lives through your music.
I personally feel rappers who are very lyrical are the best, it's the main fundamental reason what rap is influenced, raised on, shows your skill set and diversity, creativity. Hip hop on the other hand to me is a different area. Hip hop is not just about being lyrical, it's more than that. But I feel as for rap, its all about raw lyrical talent which is what makes this music genre so enjoyable for me.
Rappers like Eminem, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco come into mind when people talk about lyrical rappers. Lil Wayne is pretty lyrical too but not near the standards of Eminem.
I'm about being single, seeing double, making triple
