Basically Gonorrhea and many other STD's are infections caused by bacteria. Azithromycin (Zithromax) is an azalide, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It affects the protein synthesis of the bacteria and controls it from spreading. He will probably have to take more than one antibiotic but this one taking at an early stage usually does the trick.
