XXL Ends Print Edition Of Magazine After 17 Years - MTV
After almost two decades, XXL magazine will be no longer be releasing print editions following their upcoming October/November issue, and will instead be going digital-only.
The moves comes as the publication has been bought by Townsquare Media, according to the New York Post. The focus will now shift from print to newer forms of media and revenue streams.
“We think XXL has strong potential in both the digital and live events market,” Bill Wilson, the chief content officer of Townsquare, told the Post. The company operates 331 radio stations, as well as a number of websites.
Earlier this month, Spin Media, which owns another stories hip-hop publication, VIBE, announced that it had plans to stop producing the print edition of that franchise.
During its run, XXL featured countless hip-hop heavyweights on its covers, from Jay Z to Kanye West to Eminem, and also became known for its annual Freshman class covers.
