Sig of the Week/Month Idea Thread [Lets Get This Started]

Hey Graphics Community,

As you all know I am all for improving this activity in both quality and activity. Therefore a couple friends have brought it to my attention that a Sig of the Week or Month would definitely raise activity in this part of the forum.

Before anyone complains about people being biased or this not being run smoothly I'm going to point out that I will be running this. I see it like this, only a mod will be able to run this every week and a regular member can not always be trusted or may not be organized. I just want to help the community, I'm doing this for you!

So I can already tell you it's gonna happen one way or another, but I will need your help compiling ideas, a clean format, rules, etc. I wanna get this started ASAP, so I'm going to post a format for you all to go by so I can quickly and easily compile all of your thoughts.

Please tell me everything using the format below:

Weekly or Monthly: Should this take place every week or once a month?
Format Ideas: How I should run things, how it should be set up and the voting format.
General Rules: Tell me some of your thoughts on rules that should be applied.
Other Notes: If there is ANYTHING else that you want to say, do it now!

If you don't go by the format your post will be deleted! No matter who you are!

Definitely monthly. I mean if this forum was a graphics focused community then weekly would be a definite, but as this is a lilwayne fan base forum monthly is appropriate because we only have a limited number on people who make graphics and who would take part. Weekly would be too frequent and people wouldn't take part or not bother to do something weekly. Also weekly could get very boring as there isn't that many artists then it'd just be the same artists taking part week in and out, so IMO, monthly is a 100% option.

Format Ideas: How I should run things, how it should be set up and the voting format.

I think the main idea around this is that there should be a different theme each month for example the typical "Lil Wayne" theme then next month something completely different such as "Video Game" it makes things much more challenging and interesting. It also means that it doesn't get boring and tbh will help people improve.

Voting should probably be a poll. I mean judges might be cool. But getting dedicated judges each month may be a little risky, also it's hard to get judges because they'll most likely not know anything about photoshop and therefore making a unfair judgement on the artists work. At least a poll is just what the users like. The only downfall with that is most members here that don't use or are experienced with photoshop don't really know what a amazing signature is.

I think also people should be forced to post and vote in a poll. For example voting in the poll. Then you have to post what you like about it, what you don't like about the signature you've chosen, maybe what you didn't like about others, why you picked it, and lastly any improvements.

Only one entry
You can't PM people to vote for you (obviously)
No making other accounts to vote in poll/post
That could link into a post count minimum for all voters
Has to be made by you, no ripping or stealing work or anything like that
maybe even evidence of you making it or a PSD file to prove that you made it?

good idea
i prefer a monthly contest
cuz there wont be too many ppl who join the battle every week (like 1-2 member)
a whole month is enough time to get members to join
futhermore the voting should be on top of the main site (of the forum ofc) if this is possible
it would drag more attention this way and maybe more members would join
in addition i think that a maximum size should be like 500*500
its necessary to play out all our creativity (especially on vertical sigs)

so umm you could start a new thread every month in which you give the topic of the sig after this all members who want to join, prepare a sig and post it in this thread
in the night of the last day of the month you start the voting on the main site or in a new thread

@Wisheezy - You had some good ideas. I suppose you're right about the weekly tournaments getting boring as well and topics becoming more basic/lame much quicker. The poll with a post would work, but I'm worried many people won't actually do it and will result in less votes. Also, those who competed shouldn't be able to vote obviously. The judges would be hard to get every month, so yes a poll seems like the best option. Also, one entry is definitely the way to go.

@vorthaxX - Also some good ideas, but the only thing I didn't like was ending the submission period the last day of the month. I plan on starting these on the first of every month so that gives little to no time at all to vote. Maybe I could give until the 20th of every month and then start the voting then, no matter what. Also, having competitors post their work would be bad because then other competitors could see it and know what they're up against. I would definitely have all members PM me their work. The sig size will probably vary each month and could possibly have a set size rather than pick your own. That way everyone is working on the same scale. I may even include rules like: You must use at least one c4d, you must use a certain render, or something else.

- Monthly definitely, give's time to get it more organized, polished and time to pick the theme and whatnot. Also, weekly can get played out very quickly, People don't have time to do it every week.

- I think people should vote on what theme the sig will be one week, and then the person running it chooses a theme? Voting should be poll only. Sig's are PM'd to the member running the competition.

General Rules: Tell me some of your thoughts on rules that should be applied.

- No stealing, ripping, using tutorials. (Hard to tell.)
No voting for your own work, obviously.
If your work is not related to topic/theme it's disqualified.
NO user names on sig's allowed.
However, I do think we shouldn't have certain c4d's/Render's you HAVE to use every month. Reason I say this is because it limit's creativity. Whereas if you did a theme such as 'Freestyle' you can do whatever you want. (Maybe switch this every 2/3 SOTM?)

Monthly would be cool, but there has to be some kinda reward of some kind. so people easily know you won.

I Think there should be a poll for themes. Work Pm'ed to Mod in Charge. But placed on a poll for the community to vote on.

And make it an actual sig not a cover because some people don"t understand a true sig.

I don't think another thread is necessary. Maybe when the voting ends just make a post in the thread who top three were. I would post all of the work in the first post of course when voting starts

@Nino - I will probably have Danny add in a great award system and people will no forever who won and which week. Idk if it would be on the sidebar though, maybe just on the profile. The sidebar for each user is big enough as is.

^^Sounds good. Tbh the reward should be self pride. And maybe just a little signature made by someone saying "SOTM Winner #1" etc...until' a award system comes in place (that's a maybe cuz we don't know if there will be one)

There will be one as soon as we have a reason for one. This will give a reason for one and Chronic said that he wants to do the forum awards again sometime soon.

EDIT: I definitely don't wanna go the sig route though.
