effect question?

iv seen in derickg's pics he uses an effect which makes the photo kind of darker, its hard to explain but iv tryed to find some pictures he uses it in.. iv seen loads before but i found it kind of hard to find them







theres also one that someone has as their sig on here with birdman with shitloads of jewelry in front of him..

someone help me out and dont just ignore the thread... thanks

Yeah like Woocky said, it just looks really sharp. Too sharp, it looks lq.
Could be an applied image on overlay or something too
