What photo editing program(s) do you use?

On a more serious note, what configuration are your machines? I'm mostly curious about whether or not I should get an i5 machine or an i7. I know an i7 is foolproof, but is it really that big of a deal if I go i5? Or even i3?

For the serious artists here. I'd rather not make a new thread. I hate making threads so I feel this is appropriate enough.
