I guess it may have had a little change. But I think change is good for him and I like where he is now

Did probation completely start the change of Weezy?

Jail time AND probation definitely has changed his views on life, if that's what you wanna call it. In his Public Service Announcement he mentioned how when he became an artist, he turned into this 'machine', and as that machine he lost sleep because of the high demand of music. Whatever way you wanna look at it I don't think Wayne liked living that kind of life, but it was during this 'machine' life that he was dominating rap, had arguably the best work ethic, and was everywhere.
I feel that once probation is over next year, he'll definitely be on that weed again. I can't say the same about syrup, but definitely weed. Like Kuzz said, one day Wayne will look back at his previous works that made people think he was the best rapper alive and want to kill things again.
What he really needs is that break that people keep mentioning. He's been doing this for, what 22 years? That's a lot of time and of course he'd repeat lines. That's a shit ton of songs, it'll be hard not to recite some of them. So with a break, let Drake and Tyga (Nicki too I guess) kill the game while he's doing that skate stuff and getting it out of him til he's bored. I know the old Wayne will be back eventually.
Oh btw, I know we won't have the same Wayne from C2 that talked about selling drugs and shit because he's no longer living that life no more. So that's why his lyrics have changed, but that doesn't mean he can't have the old motivation/flow/delivery as back then. I also think something significant in life that impacts him would change his lyrics on certain songs, like on Tie My Hands, Miss My Dawgs, and Something You Forgot.
Long post is looooooooooong

I don't know what changed him... But Lil Wayne, though being my favorite rapper, is a sellout, one of the biggest in any genre.
Just listen to Upgrade U [Freestyle] and then Lollipop or How to Love.
He is a sellout. I think the money was one of the biggest issues. Whenever an artist gets enough dick riders, it's okay to put out bull, like Lollipop or Pussy Monster.
People eat up his stuff, they buy it, no matter how bad or witty it is. And that happens to just about every artist.
Also, I think he lost his motivation/passion. He really has nothing much to rap about anymore. He called himself the best, he talked about his life, he talked about his rise to fame, there's really not much left. Hopefully, if he takes some kind of hiatus, maybe he'll gain some kind of motivation back. But, even though I miss him, I don't think we'll get that hungry Wayne, from Da Drought 3 or Tha Carter II.

First things first: If Lil Wayne retires today right now for good.. i will be happy and content because his legacy is written in stone, and he won the heart of hip hop already.. He is a legend and noone has to like it to make the statement true. He earned it through hardwork. I dont think he changed a bit.. he grew up like any of us and i am glad how his career turned out. He could be dead, in jail or on drugs but he went business route and found a health hobby. To me, Hip hop is business and entertainment... To me Lil Wayne gave us fans more than enough music : Almost 10 albums, more than 15 solid mixtapes and uncountable unofficial leaks and 100s of features.
He deserves to move whatever direction he chooses as a man and a father. The journey was sweet for me because i was on Weezy when he wasnt famous at all.. i spotted his game early(hot boy Weezy) when it was No Limit vs Cash Money.. i watched Lil Wayne grow Its crazy.. It felt odd and unbelievable to see someone i was a fan of right from underground before the mass payed attentiom transform to a superstar. It feels like predicting the future haah. To to me im cool with him even calling it quit for good. I have enough music and memories unlike most of his newer fans. In my opinion.. He came, saw and conquered. What more is left for him?
Juniayaa is on a mission right now../ YMCMB fla$hing life$tyle.../ we higher & shine than whoever.

Nice reponses from everyone. Haven't seen people post such constructive/large posts in a thread for a long time like this.
I think it will also be pretty interesting to read the Gone To November book when it comes out. It could really give us fans a view on his more deeper thoughts on life that could easily explain changes and stuff like that. I know however D4 will deliver because Weezy is way better on a mixtape than an album but I feel as for albums, while he's on probation anyway I can't see his music getting more consistent. Hopefully after probation he will get back on weed and like Kuzz mentions, will make him more creative again.
