  • Weezy paved the way for southern artists...

... or am I reaching with this statement? By that I'm saying for them to be successful and get radio play depending on their skills. Cause I remember in Shooter off C2 Wayne said:

"And to the radio stations, I'm tired of being patient
Stop being rapper racists, region haters
    Spectators, dictators
    Behind-door dick takers, it's outrageous

You don't know how sick you make us
I wanna throw up like chips in Vegas
But this is southern, face it
If we too simple, then yall don't get the basics"

I feel that Wayne pushed his way from that "barrier" and shit, but thats just me... What yall think tho?

He paved the way for a certain sound that like half of hip hop currently uses. But as for Southern hip hop, naw, they were always here. C2 just got Wayne more noticed. It was pre-C3 & C3 that seriously affected hip hop.

But as much as they are today? I agree with you on everything else tho.

btw that certain sound you referring to flow/wordplay/metaphors/punchlines and lines like "all the rappers I been feeding on" (Drake on "Fuckin Problems" which is similar to Wayne's "feed me rappers" shit) or rappers mentioning lean much more right?

UGK and them started that shit. Wayne just saw that growing up and started doing it.

and now you got Drake doing it lol

Wayne was probably the most important rapper to make lean mainstream next to Three 6 Mafia

Wayne did not pave the way for Southern artists in the mainstream
"Armed and dangerous, rich and famous, young and restless
              Guns and stretchers
              Cristal and dubs for breakfast
I just got one suggestion - none should test him
'Cause cuz get hectic; send one through your sons intestines
Glocks knock lungs from chests, you get the portrait?
Bodies piled up on porches, it won't be gorgeous"

Lil Wayne paved the way for rappers all over the US, not just the South.

They started that but Wayne definitely made lean mainstream.

I personally think he pushed the mainstream envelope for southern artists.. becoz once people started calling him the Best Rapper Alive next to Jay Z... thats when a flood of artist like Jeezy T.I Rick Ross Dj Khaled took over the mainstream. The real pioneers are Outkast, UGK, Scarface and Three 6 Mafia IMO ... but Weezy was the one who took tha South to another level. Just my opinion!
