I also think C4 was pretty shit compared to his better work, and such an underwelming album for what we expected from Weezy fresh from his prison stint. But the reason I'd compare the style of D5 to C4 more is because all the tracks have some good bars and some very dud ones - showing that Weezy is very un focused and disinterested, whereas C3 still had THAT passion and fire we all know and love from Weezy. But songs like novacane show he can still make fairly origional tracks with meaning, and songs like. Up up and away still show he can flow like a motherfucker when he wants to.
IMO D5 was very unfocused (again, compared to his best work. Don't get me wrong, its still a lot better than his recent hot garbage) songs like don't kill, new slaves etc just seem rushed and very bland. After Jay Z and Kendrick absolutly demolish the track, Wayne comes across as very half assed and with nothing new to say. Just my opinion. That's not to say D5 was not a step back towards greatness, because it had a few very good tracks that I didn't expect from this 'new age' bored and uninspired Weezy wee.
tie my hands was absolutely nuts.. but apparently that was on 06 leftover.
3peat was hard.. but i think thats probably his most overrated intro.. after the first few bars he sorta loses steam when he starts rapping about stuart scott,
i actually theres theres several raps on d5 better than that one.. as far consistency from end to finish.
playing with fire had those incredible starting lines.. but then kinda fell off from there, then had that carter sessions verse...
you feel me.. i feel like carter 3 is living off the reputation its made, more than what it was in the moment, it was still obviously very huge. it was like the end cap on everything that wayne had done that summer and in between then, so it was a monster.
but song and rap wise.. i dont think its as strong as people give it credit for.. it wasnt the phenom rap performance.. of something like a carter 2. or a dedication tape.
and it didnt have to be, i mean, it was his first purposefully mainstream album. so its a give and take.
for me tho, its so hard to accept weezy being disinterested and unfocused.. when to me, he sounded veryyyy engaged.
i think, its one of the principle themes of the albums, how engaged and active he is.
i thought he killed dont kill.
he sounded vintage in there, in voice and approach.
he went back to creating original songs.. instead of just repeating what the rapper said.
he made his own song out of that dont kill beat.
which for me, all i ask, is for wayne to be himself, and be original. and it hink good results from that.
on dont kill.. he gives you bars immediately, he flows in and out of verses.. he uses hooks.. to say new bars.. instead of repeating some shit..
its just original song construction, and i can appreciate that, especially cos for a mainstream rapper, and any rapper realler.. his song formats are unorthodox as they come, this was a further extension of that. which was awesome.
and it was the first time, in awhile, that he rapped at the pace of his thoughts, usually, youre right, hes serving up these dud ass one liners. but hes always had a some of that, difference was.. when he sucks. he thinks those are clever and let them sit.
when hes really flowing, he just lets them go, on to the next rhyme, and its far more effortless. and then, its not often you hear wayne on top of that kind of instrumentation. i actuallly favored him this time.. on the lighter beats.
versus the beat you over the head beats like pure colombia.. and whatever else.
new slaves.. lol ive got a post on here.. about what i think new slaves meant to the album, most importanly tho, i think you have to understand the space and energy was coming from when kanye made yeezus,
in order to understand why wayne would jump on new slaves, kanye made an active and energetic album. you couldnt rap on new slaves, w out being active and energetic. the beat would dummy you to sleep.
maybe you didnt like waynes lyrical performance.. but he definitely wasnt bullied by the beat. i think these things were good signs... philosophically.. for the rest of the tape.

'Blunt blowin was a lazy attempt at sounding epic', nah dude its one of his best songs the verses is crazy. And all the other stuff u wrote is just bullshit.

Great post man, I like your style of thinking bro. I'm on the crapberry at the mo' so I'll reply later in depth.
You should do album reviews man, I'd like to hear your opinions on some of Weezy's older stuff.

Yes I understand the burger king line, it was hardly rocket science lol. Blunt blowing is not even a top 100 Wayne song, there was more truth and insight into my post than you'll clearly ever know. You seem like an idiot to me so I wont waste any more time responding.

I remember when D5 was first released, I mean on the first day most of the instrumentals weren't even real ones, they were remakes. That's how much he doesn't care, his engineers and producers eventually threw on the real beats a week later but come on, that's not right.I could sell Sweet and Low to Sugar Ray Leonard!!!
