Start a Fire does exactly what it's supposed to do, being a great single for radio and for people to check out C5. But as a Wayne song it's pretty weak.

I think he wasted a great Christina Millan song. Either he shouldn't have been on it or he should've been more on it and done something more with it than just chit-chat all the way through it. But as I said, it got all the impact of a great radio single but also a pretty weak move to let Millan be so heavy on it and guarantee a hit. Wayne sounds almost like a feature on this...

given how much pop I listen to I really expected to like this more than I do. Maybe it will start sounding better to me once it goes on radio, since that tends to happen with me. But it really wasn't what I was hoping for. It would have fit better as Christina's song.

I don't think Christina's the best artist for a "huge radio smash" but I like how Wayne stayed inside his camp, which is what he's done his while career. There were some nice rhymes in there too.

Wayne never has gone too far out or too big for a first single.

Lollipop ft Static - Was NOT a hit on paper and neither is this. Who knew static major? NOBODY. DOnt even lie. Lollipop became an organic hit, I remember this very well. So many ppl hated/confused/loved it and it also was surrounded by a weird release like this one. The video really blew it up

HTL: The most formulaic hit out of all of them.

Start a Fire: Most similar to lollipop for me because they BOTH feature songs that were brought to Wayne. Wayne just hopped on lollipop, he didnt craft it or anything.

Since u clearly struggle to understand why songs become hits, I will explain the difference. Lollipop and How to Love were firsts of their kind. Unique and risky songs to release because of how abstract they were at the time. Start a Fire is a rapper getting a pop hook and laying some half decent verses. It's been done 1000 times already.
