Albums can drop whenever the fuck they want, but Billboard set the precedent for recording sales Tues- Tues. Market wise it makes more sense to release on a Tuesday but, there are by no means any rules that say an album has to be released on Tuesdays. Add that to the fact that it makes it easier for electronics stores to stock on Tuesdays because all hard releases of Movies and Cds come out on Tuesdays and it's just the right way to do it. Worked at Best Buy as a second job over the holidays last year and about 20 employees worked Tuesday mornings when only 5 or so would open store weds with about 5 more people organizing stock.
