I think that if wayne had kept up his act since c3 he would've def been cemented as a hip hop legend with the best of them. Remember how everyone was crazy over him in his famous mixtape run which climaxed with the release of c3? If he never made another album after that he prob would've been a legend.

Unfortunately though, he put out rebirth, IANAHB, both of which would've been forgivable if he got right back on track and put out C4 with told y'all, no quitter, etc. Instead he had to go away for awhile and when he got out it was almost as if he had completely lost what made him great. Never seen such a drastic change in an artist in my life.

The last taste of real wayne we had was sorry for the wait, which sort of sucked anyway. After that, c4 came out and was simply not that good. I loved it at first, because it was weezy and I'm not a hater and try to go into everything with an open mind, but it aged fucking horribly. Slow, no passion, bad rhymes, hashtag bullshit rapping, immature ideas, humiliating himself around other good rappers, etc.

D4 was quirky and actually kind of a fun distraction; it was filled with great lines, but just as many bad ones... He was passionate though, doing a new kind of crazy..... but that was the beginning of an even bigger problem: "trap wayne", where he tried to reinvent himself as meek mill or who the fuck knows what. The twitchy, annoying delivery where he no longer even sounded cool became the norm.

Rock bottom was ianahb2. 100%. Most of those songs were flat out embarrassing. Childish pussy talk, empty gang boasts, corny jokes, etc. D5 would've been dope if it was shorter and they got rid of most features. Just boiled it down to like 12 solid tracks. However it was still promising.

So c5 is really the true test. Wayne was a legend and actually undid it for himself. He had the "best rapper alive" title and was proving it. The whole world was eating out of his hand and he gave it up for skateboarding and making bad music. I'll never understand it... I really won't. But I keep rooting him on! So let us all hope that c5 is a complete return to form and that it erases some of the bad aftertaste of everything he's officially put out since c3 (except no ceilings - that stands alone as his final truly great piece of work).
