• I will never understand why people want old songs that already came out on his new projects. Like when c5 comes out, people will be wanting "believe me" on it... Like why? What's the point? I want all new songs

lool, so many posts i feel i gotta respond to.

future and thug, are definitely not mindless music. that just doesnt make sense. that kind of claim says more about your approach to their music, than it says anything about the music itself.

mindless music, doesnt produce this kind of investigation into their work.

i mean, idk about you. but id be very very excited if wayne made this exact same song. that second verse is brilliant.

But Future's place in hip hop isn't really where I was tryna lead the conversation. The topic was Wayne's popularity and power, or so I thought. And it seemed you were doubting his ability to do numbers. I was simply trying to refute that.

i think futures position is hard to argue, whether you agree w it or not.. is probably subjective.. but even then, if someone doesnt like it.. i feel like the sophistication of his music is should be obvious enough to anyone that listens.. like oh.. yeah this guy is really good at making music. its really that simple. futures where he deserves to be,

as far as wayne doing numbers tho.. man idk, someone posted awhile back about how wayne disappeared off billboards from one year to the next. i think thats legitimately odd, and something worth thinking about.. but because of that its been awhile since hes hard a chart presence.. so idk.

the thing wayne has going for him i think, is that his biggest die hard fans.. are consumer age. early to mid twenties fans, that have been rocking with wayne for 10 plus years.. and will buy anything he puts out.. thats a serious comfort zone. its probably strong enough for him to carry some numbers..

probably not matching where drake is at right now tho.

          • mode I didn't say their music "doesn't make sense" when I say it's mindless I mean 90% of its enjoyablility is with the beats and cadence of their voice. I agree they can come up with some good bars but the entire reason I listen to it is to get pumped up in the Gym. I wouldn't listen to Beast in the Gym... And Future and Thug are definitely not my go to artists for thought provoking music.

actually if you haven't read a book since high school you don't get to talk about lyricism or intelligence in rap music

if you haven't written something better lately then don't ever fix your mouth to say language isn't central to his work

no, i know you didnt, im saying call their music mindless, doesnt make sense. their music is a product of their minds lol. thats inescapable.

i just think people are too quick to dismiss intelligence in someones rap music for factors that have more to do with themselves, than the artist.

ie " I dont understand what hes saying so, he must be dumb and talking gibberish" or whatever. thats what that washingtonpost article is about.. with thug and future, you have to spend time becoming familiar with their music, and familiarity breeds fluency, then you can really appreciate how nice, witty, clever, smart, thoughtful, or whatever else you might be looking for..

its present, for sure. no one gets to the level theyre at, without being really really good. rap/art is too competitive.

                  • I'm pretty anxious for NC2 honestly. I seriously loved FWA and I would listen to it 5-6 times a day when it came out... It was diverse, had good verses, and refreshing production. Oh yeah, and there wasn't autotune pretty much at all. If Wayne can replicate FWA but add more pure rapping in it, I think NC2 will be solid and I'll enjoy it. If its autotune crooning for the 4959th time, I'll be hyped for a week but then never bother to listen to it again like SFTW2. It is not gonna top the original No Ceilings but hopefully its more of a FWA than a SFTW2...Wayne's had great verses this year but the autotune and the crying voice ruins everything after a while.

Me and you have had a couple minor quarrelsome exchanges in recent history that could be chalked up as facetious squabbles at the the end of the day. Notwithstanding previously repressed and withheld misconceptions about personal sense of character, all in all, you're a fairly erudite fellow. I tip my hat to you, man.
