        • im not sure how mentions work on here, but ive seen chrisblaywer and notomandjerry talk about how well wayne is rapping and nowadays, and im behind that completely. all things considered, i think waynes been the best rapper in the game since 2013. hes had more quality projects than any other top rapper, hes working at a 4 to 1 pace right now, and looking fairly unstoppable formwise.

with that said, ive come around to enjoying the tape for what it is, a solid mixtape in the truest sense of what a mixtape is supposed to be, i dig that. i think sftw2 stands out, because i really felt there was a beginning, a middle, and an end to that project. really welld one, put together mixtape. i think nc2 is a bit more scrambled than sftw2, and as a project, that makes it inferior in my book.

but this post for me is about the lyrics. i feel just as qualified as tom and chris or 2006 to speak on waynes rapping, and lyrically here, i wasnt thrown into thought the way i was on his previous tapes. nothing to me felt like how dreams and nightmares felt. the somber reflection, the introspection, the heartache, the disappointment, the hunger. the bar quality..

"riding round w the volume down w the windows up and the choppers down
soon as we get to your block its the motherfuckin other way around
my bitch say im too wild, she dont even know why she stay around
i get home, and i dick her down,, and she talkin bout exchanging vows...
if these bullets was paintballs, i could fuck around and paint a house

im hangin out a mulsane w out a brain, its out its mind
i pull over, i push a button, it change like optimus prime.. "

and so on, theres nothin on nc2 that really stands out to me this way, like a jawdropping blitzkrieg of fking disgusting. i think the writing on nc2 is little more shallow, less comprehensive. with waynes best writing, i feel like you can approach it from so many dimensions. Wit, Heart, History, Flow, Character, Charisma, Sincerity, Thoughtfulness..

the writing on nc2 gives me a bit of an autopilot feeling. i thought sftw2 was completely breakneck, 200mph. nc2 is a lot more reserved, the line for line quality isnt as high. he does a lot of empty posturing on this tape, and hes always postured, thats a part of his game. but on this tape its not as pointed. he has his moments for sure, but not as consistent.

so while i think the tape is enjoyable enough, especially as a longtime wayne fan who enjoys listening to his work, not just to qualify it with critique, but to hear where hes at as an artist, and a rapper.

i dont think it has the heart and depth that d5 and sftw2 had, and thats why i wouldnt go out my way to call it a great project. its cool, but ill definitely be expecting more on the next one. hopefully, another original.

S4TW2 is underrated in a sense because the lyrical gymnastics he does on there really make me go, "woow". The thing with NC2 is for me, personally, STYLISTICALLY Wayne sounds more up to date, current, and swaggering than he did on the two previous projects this year.

Let me explain... there were points on S4TW2 that I didn't feel like wayne needed a backing instrumental. The instrumental came secondary to his world play, aggression, and cadence. He just outrapped the track at certain points like the lines you mentioned. It was crazy. In contrast, NC2 he is totally comfortable on the beats, hence the more posturing etc. It feels like an "easier" listen because of that. It just flows..

I wouldn't sit here and call it a great tape either, I just enjoy it really..

that makes sense to me. ive been working on a list of songs that sound the most up to date to me. songs that only the 2015 wayne could make, to kinda see where hes really at. i think he has a habit of venturing into so many of his old styles, just because he can, but his really new modern stuff can be pretty interesting. itd be nice to see him focus and concentrate on that.

2015 wayne looks to me like this :

              hes dead
              london roads
              living right
              pick up your heart

              used to
              no type
              hollyweezy
              dreams and nightmares

              pour up
              me you and hennessy
              no days off
              im nice
              crystal ball

im probably missing a few, and its not to say the other songs hes done are bad or worse.. but feel like these are good example of waynes definitive style in 2015. id really like to see a completely modern project from wayne. think thatd be a lot of fun. man, pick up your heart is so good. lol

That's a great compilation. I think its probably a distinctive style for wayne

I'd say it sounds depressed, melodic, aggressive, cavalier, and most of all lends it self well to an almost poetic metaphor filled rapping style.

i dont think he was lying neitha. the nongressive quality of n c2 follows this storyline he set for himself in that song. i donlt think he wanted to make this..., i don't even think he had a choice, cmon he JUST finished telling us he's tired of this shit, and all that in this song, then turns around and makes this. he still ablogated to cash money ain't he? (I mean signed ) It sounds so fucked up but i think they forced him to make this. i think they forced this whole year. Everything he did in 2015 sounded pre-cordinated in a kind of way. the autotune is brilliant, but i just feel so bad for this nigga dawg, you can TELLX he just sick of everything, yeah we getting a lot of music than usual, but i don't think wayne wanted to do all of that..i'm startin to get really mad just thinking about this so i'ma quit, but the constant reliance of overusing autotune tells me I'm right about this. they working this man like he a machine/ some kind of robot, that's what he trying to tell us with that, it NEVER sounded off-key before this year, I'm catchin every signal this nigga throwin

Wayne cannot not want to do music lol I get what you mean in terms of this all coming out because he cant release c5 which is why he NEEDS to keep his name out there and feed his family..

But at the same time, I dont think wayne can stay sane without recording especially during hard times.

Yeah no one forced him to do anything, that's a ridiculous statement. Wayne's routine has and always will be going to the studio every day. If dumbass Tez and Mack Maine actually knew how to sift through the hundreds of songs Wayne has piled up and pick the best sounding one's Wayne would have a classic on deck with Carter 5 and any mixtape.
