  • NC2 new classic status

After mad listens I'm def loving this project more and more. There's endless fire bars here, y'all. I remember when FWA came out and a lot of you didn't "get it" because it was unlike any previous Wayne project up to that point. I feel like NC2 is the same. Some of y'all may not like autotune (I don't mind it, but I do get annoyed when he sounds like a wannabe thugger or future flow and lyrics wise) but that's really just the means to deliver the message... And the message is pretty fucking dope.

Read these lyrics if u can't make them out right away, because there is straight fire almost the whole way thru. Some clunkers here and there, but that's par for the course on any Wayne project. He goes so hard here. A lot of these verses sound like the dope ass features he been giving thru 2014-15... Maybe more than S4TW2 or FWA. He sounds pretty fucking unhinged and passionate -- like he's making his new vision come to life.

Wayne be having the last laugh here, boys. Sorry to say, but this shit is dope af. Guarantee it'll be a classic in 8-12 months time. Maybe sooner. It's a total grower.

BTW- even the intro is flames. Gets me hype af. Mannie is weird with his voice and his bisexuality (lol) but when weezy comes in slangin that Jamaican flow i swear it takes me back to drought 3 intro. Lyrics are nothing spectacular but they're just a bit of fun before the tape starts proper. Then B2B is straight fire IMO. This coming from an 07-head. Lol.

LOL. Nah I'm actually being serious. He goes really hard on this tape - even by 2015 standards - he just uses a lot of autotune and pisses people off who thought they knew what they were getting. Give it all time to marinate. He is rapping strong on most of this tape. I think ppl are missing a lot of the lyrics (as fucking usual) especially this time around because he raps fast a lot here. Listen to the feeling though, and the bars! The bars! The bars!!

i dont think anyone is doubting the bars. waynes been in such a form that the raps are always going to be on point. that said, i dont think the writing on this is up to par w the rest of his year. it has its wit sure, but i thought waynes been pretty thoughtful this year, and this project seems a little more fluffy on the content side..

his performances over the beats were pretty good though, hes still there as a rapper, but hes definitely lacking freshness. like you said emulating the future/thug sound, isnt a good move for him. i dont like him trying to compete for those sounds..

i enjoyed him more when he felt fresh and inventive(which is why im not super huge on NC). in that sense, the standout to me is my name is.. he made that sound like a really fresh record. future cant make that record, and neither can thug or drake or anybody else.

he did what only wayne could do to that beat, i wouldve liked to hear more instances like that.. relaxed, kinda zany, cool, playful, but all the rhymes and flow youd expect.. thats a really nice rap.

wayne sounds a lot stronger in his own lane.. more so than when hes competing in the trendier lanes..

i know what u mean. My name is... that's prob my fav track because it has that old school energy and Wayne originality (which these days ain't as original as it used to be, but fuck it). Ive always been more a drought 3/d2 kinda guy than a NC type of guy. I found the original NC to be endless bars and fun but not his most original work at all. U could hear that his subject matter was wearing thin around that point.

in some ways NC2 is more interesting because he's clearly trying something inventive; something where he can stack bars on bars on bars with a new twist. Maybe he got tired of being criticized constantly for not being original despite how dope his raps are (see FWA and sftw2).

Everyone always rips rips him apart for his approach being stale -- yet young thug rhymes with one hundredth of the talent and people dick ride him. Maybe Wayne is saying like "u want future and thug? I'll show u how dope this music COULD be if these niggas were more lyrically talented!"

its really just wayne being Wayne, really.

Aint dickriding we honestly don't know yet if it's a classic. I'm guessing it will be. Usually when a Wayne project divides us like this it's either shit (IANAHB2) or its genius (FWA). I know NC2 ain't shit, so it must be genius.

And seriously, listen to his rapping on this tape. Bars for light years.

I'm with you it's like classic just means good now the way it's thrown around. I don't think NC2 is classic but I think it's really good.

this just is not a classic. Some songs are gems, some are absolutely shit, some are ok. Classic? not even close for me.
