NC2 new classic status

Time will tell. All year everyone hates hard when Wayne drops a new project... And everyone (almost) ends up loving each and every fucking one of them. Wayne projects take time. I put NC2 on two CDs. Actual CDs... And it's even nicer that way. Both discs 48 mins apiece. Disc two starts with big wings.
It's good shit. I feel like it works better when it's not just a big blob of tracks. Whatever anyway,
the lyrics are mostly fire. Don't get me wrong there's still some pretty cringe worthy lines like "I'm higher than cholesterol" and stupid lame wordplay like that (sounds like thug's idea of clever lol) but most of it is pretty insane lyrically. Flow just takes a minute to get used to.

U could hear that his subject matter was wearing thin around that point.
in some ways NC2 is more interesting because he's clearly trying something inventive; something where he can stack bars on bars on bars with a new twist. Maybe he got tired of being criticized constantly for not being original despite how dope his raps are (see FWA and sftw2).
Everyone always rips rips him apart for his approach being stale -- yet young thug rhymes with one hundredth of the talent and people dick ride him. Maybe Wayne is saying like "u want future and thug? I'll show u how dope this music COULD be if these niggas were more lyrically talented!"
its really just wayne being Wayne, really.

Aint dickriding we honestly don't know yet if it's a classic. I'm guessing it will be. Usually when a Wayne project divides us like this it's either shit (IANAHB2) or its genius (FWA). I know NC2 ain't shit, so it must be genius.
And seriously, listen to his rapping on this tape. Bars for light years.
i do think his approach is stale tho..

read this article.. and tell me, whos thinking like this in waynes corner? no ones carefully curating his music so it can be heard and appreciated a certain way.
young thug took some major steps as an artist this year w his releases, hes getting progressively more solid in his work.. with slime season 2 really capping it off, and driving it home.. thug is forreal.
he may not have all waynes words.. but hes got a fuck ton of ability, and hes great at rhythm, melody, and tone.. better at some of those things than wayne is really.. and maybe most importantly.. hes in a better creative space.. hes fully free, very relaxed, and making music is easy for him right now... waynes working under a lot stress..
think thats why i really appreciate the im nice, finessin, too young, no type.. syrupy sort of flows.. its nice to hear wayne relaxed and comfortable.
lol like bro, youre a vet. you dont have to compete w these young guys, especially not future and thug. theyre your lineage... its good for them to be good.. so kick back and have make some music only wayne can make..

Interestingly enough, this new tape reminds me of Drought 3 more than any other release in his discography… and before everyone jumps on my ass for saying that, let me explain:stylistically it is very far from DD3 (save for some of My Name Is, B2B and a few other verses), but it’s very close to that classic tape in that it’s the first time since then that Wayne has completely committed himself to a vast, drawn out vision of what he wants music to be.By the end of NC2 he is just crooning and doing his demented syrup R&B take, which is more honest than anything he’s done in recent memory.I loved S4TW2 and FWA (perhaps even more than this – although it’s too early to tell) but on those he seemed to be delivering on expectations, whereas here on NC2 it sounds like he’s not doing this for anyone but Wayne.
And not only that, but pound for pound I would say that the lyrics are as dense, abundant and passionate as DD3.He has that manic rasp back – even if it is affected by autotune throughout – and he seems to have harnessed this new sound finally. (Holly Weezy was the first flash of owning this new sound.)Think about it this way:DD3 was a syrupy clever extension of what rap was in 2006-7; NC2 is a syrupy clever extension of what rap is in 2015.Also, there are plenty of clunker lyrics on DD3, but they’re less noticeable because his flow is more traditional there – same as how a line like “My bitch got cat eyes” (from My Name Is) doesn’t derail the song – despite how random and not clever it is – because of the strength of the bars around it. There are many parallels to be drawn between 2007 and 2015 and this latest tape is maybe the best example yet… you just need to step outside of the mental state that keeps artists pigeonholed in order to see and hear it.
Talking in terms of literal and figurative “bars”, Wayne spits himself a veritable prison on NC2.He stacks the lyrics higher and harder than he has in 2015, whether it’s a banger, a slow jam or whatever, he does it well, I think. Most times the lyrics veer into unbearable territory (Krazy, Moment – yes, I think Moment is a weak song) Wayne lassos them back in line.Wayne spitting is a lot like harnessing a wild animal and it’s all a matter of quality control. One of the things I always loved about vintage Wayne is that he had excellent sense when it came to keeping lines from becoming too cheesy or lame. It’s not easy to do in rap!He lost that control almost entirely in 2011-13, but his discipline has returned. Now, when I begin to cringe as I think a line is headed into IANAHB2 Weezy zone, he reins it in and sets it back on track with a great punchline or clever way to finish it.He doesn’t win every time, but he does so a lot more than he was before this year.Hard to put to words – if you know it, then you know what I mean.
