Random people off the street know little about Wayne except for his singles. They rarely know any album tracks so I never pay them any mind. Ask them to spit "Feel Me" off Tha Carter II and they wouldn't know not one word. And I would have to disagree with you. I don't believe that a random Hip-Hop purist believes Tha Carter III is his best album. I never hear that & I definitely never heard that from people in the streets.
Mrs. Officer & Got Money Aren't classic songs IMO I personally can do without them, it's cool to hear them every blue moon but they aren't in my top 100 Wayne songs and not in my top 15 Wayne singles.
Yes The Leak & Tha Carter III Sessions also put a damper on the album for me because I was expecting that type of quality on the Album and I didn't find that. When I make my list of favorite Wayne songs I find more of the Leak and the Sessions in my top 50 than I do of the songs that were actually on Tha Carter III. The Hype was SOOOOO Big. I never seen anything like that in my life. I belive that album was the most anticipated Hip-Hop albums of all-time. That's the only thing classic about Tha Carter III IMO because when I listened to it, I was just like "Oh,ok" and me wishing he would have put such and such songs on the album instead of the ones he had on there.
Classic albums I expect to be amazed from start to finish and maybe skip 1 and minimum 2 songs. And me personally I can do without "Got Money", "playin with fire", "La La", "Phone home" (although I don't dislike it as much as some people do) "Dr. Carter" is so much of an reach it annoys me sometimes I can go without that it. I don't even count that trash ass "pussy monster" song that's an embarrassment to even be on the album. Out of all the songs they could have put on there they put that bullshit on there. I don't believe I've listened to that song since 2008 and I'm dead ass serious. Lollipop only was what it was because of the anticipation of the first single of Tha Cater III it wasn't all that great or spectacular but I'll still label it a classic for doing what it did. Damn and to be honest I didn't like "Let the Beat Build" until I saw him perform it live. That shit was hella dope! I didn't think "comfortable" was all that until later as well.
After awhile Carter III grew on me. I absolutely love "Shoot me down", "A Milli" one of my all time favorites, "3 Peat" Classic, "Mr. Carter" Dope "Tie my hands" nice, "You aint got Nuthin" my shit, "Misunderstood" dope besides the skit.
So for me, like you said. its a GREAT ALBUM but compared to other classic it's not on that level and to me its not in his TOP 3 best projects.
No reason, "Gossip", "I'm Me", "Hate Me or Love It", "La La La" & "Something You Forgot" shouldn't be on Tha Carter III. No excuse what so ever that should have been mandatory. Ain't nobody care about no damn leak. Hell and Idk how old you were at the time but "I'm A Beast & "Prostitute Flange" was fucking up the streets and parties back in the day so I even feel they should have been on there.
So That's Why "I" Feel Tha Carter III Isn't A Hip-Hop Classic, But The More People Who Feel It Is More Power To Them & To Wayne. It's A Good Look On His Legacy
