Anybody who's read any of my recent posts knows I love C5 and I think it was a deep, lyrical, thoroughly enjoyable dare-I-say masterpiece that exceeded all of my expectations in 2018. However, I got to thinking: What do people ACTUALLY dislike about C5, or is it just a bunch of ppl being lil bitches cos of the hype and shit?
Ima go through it track by track, because when I break it down mentally based on what I've read here it seems like y'all like most of the songs -- in some cases A LOT. I am not even gonna comment on the production because I think for the most part we can all agree the production on C5 was immaculate!
1- intro -- doesn't count, but as far as album "skit" intros go it's the GOAT
2- don't cry -- dope
3- dedicate -- dope, super lyrical
4- uproar -- banger, dope even if it annoys you. plus seems to be on many of yalls short list of fav 2018 Wayne songs
5- let it fly -- dope Wayne verse, cool Trav feature & hook, seems to be a huge favorite around here
6- can't be broken -- dope hook, bars all day.
7- dark side of the moon -- lots of people have a problem with this track, but even if it ain't your thing it's a chick song.. and it's only 4 minutes amongst a run of fire tracks
8- Mona Lisa -- dope, widely recognized as a masterpiece
9- what about me -- amazing pop song on par with how to love and lollipop IMO. some haters out there it seems.
10- open letter -- universally loved by all
11- famous -- depressing, but raw and honest.. a nice follow up to open letter. Reginae hook is way better than expected
12- problems -- not bad, but def not a favorite around here. too much Wayne trying to be new school. but still good lyrics
13- dope niggaz -- dope. old school shit
14- hittas -- dope. old school shit
15- took his time -- sick hook, some decent lyrics. not my favorite but others seem to like it.
16- open safe -- dope. funny af. swag for days. why some ppl dislike it ill never know. so u dislike mustard... so fucking what. you LIKE Wayne don't you? well don't sleep on some of his dopest lines and flows on the project
17- start this shit off right -- dope. old school shit. great hook(s)
18- demon -- def a grower for me (no homo), but different and dope, most of y'all like it from what I read
19- mess -- dope. lyrical, emotional. machine gun spitting sounds nice
20- dope new gospel -- beautiful hook, Wayne vibes over the production. few weak bars but it's all good.
21- perfect strangers -- dope. emotional masterpiece. fan favorite all around
22- used 2 -- dope. fire everything. don't think anyone here dislikes it.
23- let it all work out -- dope. another emotional masterpiece. fan favorite, clearly.
All that said, what exactly are we talking about here? People hating on a 23 track album because they don't like Dark side of the moon, what about me, problems, famous and possibly open safe? When that occurred to me I thought jeez what fucking ingrates some Wayne fans are. Crazy thing is I like all those less popular songs to varying degrees! I like the unanimously voted FIRE ones too.... but I just think C5 overall has a dope flow to it.
I guarantee ppl will respond to this some shit like "well song for song it's dope, but I just can't get into it. no replay value". This shit gets me so irritated. I mean, to each his own, but still... nigga gave y'all like 17 or 18 universally enjoyed tracks, and a small handful that are by no means trash; one could even argue they're some of the most mature on here. Some are just for the more adventurous or maybe patient listener.
If you can't get good replay out of this project, I don't know what you need. Another C2 or DD3 or D2? Even those had a few moments weaker than other moments.
My conclusion is: (1) C5 is either too affected by the hype and will only be fully appreciate by some of y'all after a year or so passes. (2) Wayne revealed too much emotion for you. (3) You genuinely just dislike these songs, which seriously makes me wonder wtf songs (since C3 and NC1) y'all do like... because Wayne is rapping better than he has since 2008 on this project.
That is all.
