  • 2015-2018 Wayne Defining Skill

Yall i dont know why this doesnt seem to come up but i feel a lot of people are sleeping on wayne's new strong suit. It has obviously changed throughout the years but I feel like right now unparalleled, his best skill in this era is his singing songs. He seems to be more in his pocket doing these kinds of songs than any other kind of songs. including rapping.

    I'm Nice
    What About Me
    Suwu
    Light Years
    No Type

are all dam near flawless. and some of the best songs from those tapes. and I feel like his singing voice sounds better than his rapping voice right now. His voice sounds iffy on some rapping songs but flawless on these singing songs. I'm Nice and Light Years are some of his best songs since jail, and yes he's still rapping good and debatably as good as before, his voice on those songs doesn't compare to his new singing voice. 2014, was the last of his goat rapping voice and for some reason it's not mentioned much but he makes better r&b songs than r&b singers. he outdid Bryson tiller on both them remixes, and what about me is one of the most flawless song on c5. flew under the radar like Light Years, Suwu etc. but it's as good as it gets.

im not even that into singing songs which is why I sometimes gloss over these songs when saying my favorite songs off the projects but wayne makes you want to listen to them cuz he's actually really good at it. and yes imo better at those kinds of songs than rapping songs at this point in his career. like whether you like that kind of music or not I think we must agree objectively those are his best work and almost what his voice is made to do at this point in his career. he went from being a goat r&b rapper to now a goat r&b singer.

imo its the defining skill of this era wayne. like if 05-06 is defined as his gangsta persona and southern swag, I feel 15-18 should be defined as his r&b singing.

People just have the idea in their heads that Wayne has declined and won't even consider anything other than that. Nobody can tell me he isn't rapping better than ever. Drought 3/C3 era etc flows and attitude and so forth was more 'out of this world' but the way he's been putting words together since sftw2 has been on another level and he has been growing since sftw2.

I definitely rank Dedication 6 with D2 and DD3. It set the standard for this new Wayne era we're in.
