Does Wayne still have any of that in him?

Closest thing in recent memory for me is "Kush" a feature he did with Ross and Gunplay. And even that isn't super close.
you and me have such similar views on everything its insane to me. i literally havent heard wayne drop a good autotune track in the LONGEST time. like how anyone can say the way he currently uses it compared to how he used to is so beyond me i cant even put it into words. that leaned out raspy HARSH autotune was pretty much what made me a wayne fan. it's funny cuz with i ain't nervous i had such high hopes that he'd still use autotune like that but it disappeared quickly after ianahb2. he needs to crank that shit up & start sing-rapping again cuz now he's basically just talking with it on the lowest setting & it sounds terrible.

i feel like wayne forgot the kind of music he used to make. i would love to watch him sit down and listen to c3 & rebirth & be like oh shit i forgot i used to sound like that & then see what he could do. the new hiphop/trap style ruined autotune. it's not even an evolution to me it's like they went backwards cuz all the new artists sound like they are using autotune for the first time and the settings are all fucked up.

it's 100% the autotune settings, shitty mastering, and what he's doing with his voice. also he's probably not as inebriated as he used to be so not being super fucked up & using autotune the way he once did is probably why it sounds so "clean". it's hard to explain over a forum.

I know what you mean though. Around the NC2/Collegrove/Pour Up period it seems like he was using lean quite heavily based on the way he was looking/talking/acting at shows and in interviews etc. And the way he was using his voice in that period really reminded me of 2008/9 but the autotune was just not right most of the time.

These days it's also more like he's singing rather than crooning or sort of dragging his voice in that raspy pained sort of way.

yessss dude exactly. the nc2 era could have been better if the autotune/mastering was on point.. but unfortunately it sounded like something a high schooler made in garage band. i miss his drugged out crooning dude that was like the most unique sounding thing i have ever heard. i go back & listen to priceless/my reality/she’s a ryder & i’m like goddamn where did that voice go. it’s so frustrating as a fan cuz i can’t help but compare everything he does now to shit back then and to me personally just none of it even comes close now. dreams off of funeral was the closest he’s gotten in my opinion to his old sounding self. but again the autotune was weird and his voice was too high in some parts. idk man.

Damn, I'd forgotten about that Priceless song. Used to listen to that all the time. That whole Birdman album was really good actually.

But yeah after prison he just stopped that whole unique rockstar Wayne autotune thing. I think Shanell spoke about that in an interview recently. Dreams was definitely a more 'modern' version of it though, I bet there are more recent unreleased ones that sound like that.

dude that's literally one of his best features of ALL time someone made a forum on here recently dedicated to that song. & yeah i mean to watch that interview but i keep forgetting. there are a few post jail songs that showcase that rockstar autotune wayne but obviously it's pretty much gone. if he made more songs like dreams i truly believe 100% without a doubt he would be back on top again. that is the ONLY song on funeral that actually stands out and doesnt sound like everything & everyone else. henceforth why im assuming he chose to perform it on fallon. it's like everyone forgot about the rockstar wayne era. that was the most iconic thing ever to watch, & that (to me) is when he sounded the best, rapped the best, looked the best (health wise), used autotune the best..everything he did was just perfect.
