  • Lil Wayne Underrated

    Hear me out.

I can't be the only one that believes this. tho everyone recognizes lil wayne is huge, i feel like a lot of people dont know how good of a rapper wayne is.

Like tht bootleg kev post was a prime example. He sed royce da 5'9 was better than wayne like it was a fact, and should be universally agreed on. And i feel like there are a lot of people tht feel tht way.

like maybe it was cuz his prime was kind of short and if u werent in tune with rap for those like 3 years u might have missed it, but if someone sed "wayne is the best lyricst ever" to some audiences it could be taken as sarcasm.

Like i cant be the only one tht feels of all the superstar rappers, wayne might be one of the most underrated...

the differences of opinions are huge.

like there is def a middle ground tht heard his 09-11 commercial work and be like i fw weezy hes cool but u wouldnt consider him one of the greatest, and then theres the ones tht were around for his prime tht would fight over him then theres everyone after tht tht think "he's trash". and then people who came before 05 and just heard his singles tht dont take him seriously...

like i cant be the only one.

in a way, if there was a list, i feel he could be on the list of most underrated rappers of all time.

like theres no reason he shouldnt be a regular name in the goat conversation. and the ones tht know really know.

People don't care to listen to Wayne no more because it's not "cool".

If Bootleg Kev actually listened to Wayne's features this year, he would not be saying this.

I can't even remember the last Royce song I heard and even if he puts out features for his fans regularly like Wayne?

after all those years and still, every time you speak the truth. That's the exact case!
Sadly, Wayne is going to be appreciated when he's gone. I guess, that if he died 10 years ago, he would be on Pac Status. His commercial side and his constant appearances on various tracks (basically everywhere) made people take him for granted. He was winning, he was (still is) trying to evolve, go beyond his limits, this wasn't easy, he got lazy at some time, but still he was working his ass off. He has an immense body of work that simply if you aren't a major fan, can't know all of it and appreciate .
He is underrated, many men came and stole his looks, his attitude, his name(!), his flows, his voice. So many copies, that he sometimes can't be appreciated. I hear people praising Future or Thugga for example. That they invented today's culture, but wait a minute, who did they study? Who did it first? I get it they had their own unique sound, they did their own hits, they played (still play, obviously) their role and influenced many more. But they started from the fundamentals Wayne laid out for them. He made it look easy, whoever doesn't ride this new wave, can't understand it. Where I come from, people think it's easy and lazy to do what Wayne and his successors do (the whole lean-autotune-punchline thing, you get it).
The point is, and sorry my reply got so long by now, but It's a constant subject that comes into surface, in the Forum but in my daily life too, Wayne is criminally underrated, and maybe I'm a fanboy, I admit it, cause I simply want him to win (and his team and he alone did so many mistakes man, not only musically) and prove his value. Like he did at that period of time ('05-'09), so that people won't forget ever again who he is.
When they miss him, they're praising him. It's something that I'm not unfamiliar with, but with Wayne, it's happening again and again.
I don't know if he's appreciated enough in the US right now. I hope he is, I'm looking at articles and youtube comments mostly, to see what people think of him. I remember through the years, that constantly when he snaps on some verse, people be like: "wow Wayne is back". Seriously, I can't be the only one that has seen this. lol
When they'll miss him for good, they will understand. But, fuck that, may the man live a hundred years!

True. His lyrics are genius level word play even to this day. I think when he passes people will actually give his post C4 music a chance and realize that he never lost it, just got a little lazy after C4. But even he said at the time rap was on the back burner due to his new found love for skateboarding
