  • my biggest issue with NO CEILINGS 3

this mixtape is lazy its lazy in many ways and its frustrating because wayne shows moments of legitimate brilliance on this tape (LAMAR, BBKING, LIFE IS GOOD (SECOND HALF), 2 DIAMONDS, TYLER HERRO) but its heavily overshadowed by lazy uninspired songs

lets look at my favourite mixtape by lil wayne DD3 lets look at the original KING KONG v DD3 version

wayne takes the song and makes it UNRECOGNISABLE in comparison to the original he just destroys it flips it and rides the beat in unique pockets that the original artist cannot even hope to sit in this shows viciousness, hunger and talent skill unmatched

and again although wayne doesnt completely destroy nas on his own song and make it unrecognisable like he did to king kong BUT he flips the entire song in such a unique way and takes ownership of the sound and makes it his own

now lets look at NO CEILINGS 3

wayne literally mimicks the flow in its entirely for the entire song and makes minor adjustments to the lines themselves this is INCREDIBLY lazy and uninspired why TF would anyone (unless your a stan) want to hear waynes version over the original?

but wait you say waynes always done this!!! where? on some of the very worst songs on each tape eg

when wayne did these it was clear he was taking it easy in the studio or just having fun and it was a rare occurence for wayne to directly RIP the entire original song letter by letter

what wayne would do in some circumstances is mimick the flow on a hook or start of his verse as a tribute to the OG but he would always ride the beat his own way

and MAKE THE SONG HIS OWN it was such an INTEGRAL component of enjoying waynes mixtapes and this has disappointed me so much with NC3 that so much of the project is unoriginal and uninspired

wayne mimicking a dude named 42 dugg flow

    FOR THE NIGHT

bruh someone remind wayne that his LIL WAYNE and not LIL BABY 2.0

waynes got bars on this project saying "damn these dudes is looking like my sons" whilst his literally lifting entire styles from other artists its embarrassing for real

this has opened my ears to lil baby though and ive started listening to his versions over waynes theres literally no reason to listen to waynes blatant rips offs as opposed to the originals

That's why NC3 should of been one disc =/

There is too many fillers on both sides.

I'm pretty sure in this interview Wayne said he's doing a lot of lil baby songs for nc3 and is making sure he says everything in exactly the same way as lil baby said it:

He's too much of a fan of those songs to come up with anything new on them, so they end up being more like cover versions. His raps keep getting more technical when he actually wants to rap but Wayne has been getting less creative with his flows for a while now. He always comes with better flows on the more old school beats though, or the ones that have a sort of old school vibe... or weird beats like Mama Mia.

But yeah this is one of the reasons D6 is so much better than NC3.

I personally find modern beats and current hip hop in general to be more and more boring every year. Would rather just have original music from Wayne.

You're comparing a lot of songs to DD3, that is by far Tunechi's greatest mixtape.

He loved NC3 when it came out. I’m guessing after the hype he came to his senses

Well, that was after he heard that a lot of the songs are basically mimicking the original. He just like me. I never heard the originals. And after I did. He's on point. I still fuck with NC3 though regardless.

NC3 is mid and I really mean mid. Like it's not trash but there's definitely a lot of skippable tracks on either side. Should have been one tape like a lot of people have mentioned.

As far as comparing Wayne's old shit, you guys are just gonna have to accept that Wayne isn't as versatile as he used to be. I don't think the dude has the ability take another artists beat and make everyone forget the original song like he used to. There's no doubt he's more technical than ever when it comes to that fast rap but he's been stuck in that gear for a hot minute. He doesn't hit as many different flows and sounds as he used to. Prob cuz his voice is kind of fucked nowadays too.

Kind of reminds me of what happened with Tech N9ne around 2011-2012 too tbh. He became more technical and fast, but overall less interesting to listen to. Which might make sense, Wayne and Tech both claim to be huge fans of each other. Wayne also claimed in an interview Tech N9ne was all he really listened to as far as hip hop.

                  TLDR

Wayne is more technical and fast on a beat than ever, but way less versatile with his flows and ability. Kind of similar to Tech N9ne, and Wayne claims that's all he listens to how.

Absolute worst thing about NC3 for me is DJ Khaled, he literally adds nothing after the initial intro
