J. Cole created his current situation by himself. His discography consists of two mixtapes -- The Come Up and The Warm Up -- that were released independently before he signed to Roc Nation. "Lights Please" on The Warm Up got Jay Z's recognition and that's when J. Cole was signed onto his label. He did his thing, built his own foundation, and legends reached out to him because what he built was impressive.

Now Atlantic is a real good look for Wiz -- definitely a major label. Still lacking that good cosign though.
