I was thinking 'bout this the other day with featuring artist/cameos/guest stars becoming increasingly prevalent for both commercial and artistic reasons. A big artist on your song means more records sold, or might bring a new direction out you etc.
Anyway, the artists who usually get me to check another artists album or whatever are hook singers like T-Pain/Akon. For example, the amount of new artists I discovered simply by going on Wikipedia and checking a feature list for 'Kon & Pizzle is pretty vast. Although a lot of artists they put on fell off fast without them to make another smash. Some would say Akon & T-Pain have fallen off recently themselves, but that's for the birds.
I used to always cop shit if it had a Wayne feature too, but since 09 I ain't really been buzzed about Wayne features anymore. Normally inches me towards a download though.
In terms of rappers- Luda, Eminem and those who TRY on others records make me check it. Serial collabers that seem to phone in every verse like Snoop can actually put me off a track.
Also I'll never get excited for a Rick Ross or Young Jeezy feature or whatever, simply because they are hugely average MCs. Star power alone (and even that's debatable, especially for Jeezy) doesn't make a good track.
Anyway just interested to see what featured artists make you cop an album or a song?
I'd never have been motivated to download a Mike Jones album if it hadn't had a T-Wayne combo track on it lol etc
