  • Why do artists sell out into an audience where they make less..

I read through the thread about the music that gives you a chill and one of the answers was akon's - I wanna love you, and after having read that I went back over to the konvicted album and well it got me thinking, that album is sensational, so much meaning in the songs and he sold so many copies, so why on earth do artisits then make tracks such as david guetta tracks which sell, but are never classics and do not really sell as much, i mean other examples are T-pain's first album and possibly epiphany as well and then he sells out and so on with countless artists, i mean it just makes no sense, whats your opinion, who else started off so well and then went off in the complete wrong direction?

Other artists that started off extremely well and then went 'mainstream':

    Taio Cruz
    Black Eyed Peas
    Possibly Flo Rida
Jay Sean, though his latest mixtape was not that bad..
    Example
    Jason Derulo
    N-Dubz
    Nathan
    Nelly
    Sean Kingston
Ne-Yo (remember songs like so sick and then you listen to beautiful monster)
To name but a few..... i meant then you have the people that stayed true to themselves and kept up their success:
    Notorious B.I.G,
    2pac,
    Usher (for the most part)
R Kelly (Still makes sensational music that does sell)
    The Dream,
Wayne (Excluding rebirth, lollipop and how to love lol)
    Will Smith,
Tech N9ne (has always stuck to what he believed in and its now paying off),
    T.I.
    Eminem,
    Rick Ross (Bossing it atm),
    Jay Z,
    Lyfe Jennings,
    Kid Cudi,
    Kanye West!!,
    J. Cole,
    Chris Brown..
and Bei Maejor is finally getting the notice that he deserves

Akon fell off so hard to me. It all started with that Na Na Na bs.

      Soul Survivor hook >>>>>>>>>
"Armed and dangerous, rich and famous, young and restless
      Guns and stretchers
      Cristal and dubs for breakfast
I just got one suggestion - none should test him
'Cause cuz get hectic; send one through your sons intestines
Glocks knock lungs from chests, you get the portrait?
Bodies piled up on porches, it won't be gorgeous"

I believe that its the labels that want that, they get these great artists that were Da Shit when they weren't signed and they make the artists do radio songs instead of the type of stuff they signed them off of.

For example, I heard that Cash Money just let go of Yo Gotti because he only makes hood songs, they put Wayne, Nicki, & Ciara on his last singles for radio play. Then, he put out a new song called "Single" where he even says that they wanted him to put a single out, but Gotti's not that type of dude tho.

          It's all about the money

          Mainstream = Money

Lil' Wayne himself is a prime example.
