The only thing he did for hip hop culture was lower the expectations of rappers and promote the worst possible image to the mainstream. When old people/hip hop haters hate on rappers, they're generally reacting to the Soulja Boy stereotype, not Jay Z or anyone else.

However, on a positive note, the only Soulja Boy line I've ever liked was "I don't freestyle cause my style ain't free", genuinely loved that lol, and use it as a get out clause when local people who know I'm a rapper ask me to freestyle lol. Cheers for that at least Soulja haha.

See that's a fair balanced view and I respect that. Fair enough you dig Soulja's music, I'll never understand that but I can't tell anyone what to listen to.

What IS ridiculous is claiming swag rap is taking over the rap game, when every single swag/trap rapper is universally slated by the majority of hip hop fans and sell low units. Low critical acclaim, low sales, low respect in the game....doesn't sound like a takeover to me.
