Soulja Boy says fans will hear a more mature sound on his next album Promise, due early next year.
The 21-year-old rapper has had his share of legal issues and controversies this year. Sued in May this year for failing to make payments for a rescheduled concert, Soulja Boy then went on to beef with the entire U.S. Army over the lyric 'Fuck the FBI and the army troops? Fighting for what... be your own man,' released on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
In October the Chicago native, real name DeAndre Cortez Way, was stopped by police carrying 5oz of marijuana and eventually released on a $10,000 bond. However, it looks like Way is pledging to put past troubles behind him with his next record:
"Right now I’m working on my new album; it’s called Promise — my fourth album to release from Interscope Records. It’ll be in stores top of 2012," he told Boombox.
"I want everybody to support. [The album is] just really showing the growth and maturity of Soulja Boy. It’s going to be dope. It’s going to be lot of great records on it, a lot of dope features, a lot of great production. I want all my fans to check it out."
Soulja Boy will be hoping his new direction will lead to better sales than his last album, The DeAndre Way, which shipped 13,000 first week units last year.
Last month Soulja Boy revealed he received words of support from none other than Justin Bieber when the Candian teen phoned him after hearing of the drugs arrest.
