DJ combines 'Watch The Throne' with Biggie and Tupac vocals
It goes without saying that The Notorious BIG and Tupac Shakur are two of the greatest of emcees of all time. Through their meteoric rise to their well-publicized beef and tragic deaths, they will always be linked together in music history. The hip-hop sound has progressed so much since the 90's that it one can't help but wonder what they would sound like if they were alive today.
In honor of the 15th anniversary of Biggie's death, DJ Rob Dinero released his mash-up tribute mixtape, Watching Over The Throne. Dinero replaces the tag team of Jay-Z and Kanye from Watch The Throne and inserts the two fallen icons in their place to create a unique listening experience.
Combining new production over familiar lyrics is nothing new for DJs. Danger Mouse, super producer and member of Gnarls Barkley, found success in 2004 with The Grey Album where he laid Jay-Z vocals from The Black Album with The Beatles' beats from The White Album. What makes Watching Over the Throne such a labor of love is that Dinero had to create each instrumental from scratch.
"I had to go make each track from Watch The Throne for my project because they're aren't WTT original instrumentals out there to use." DJ Rob Dinero said.
Syncing tracks wasn't the only difficulty facing Dinero. After each homemade instrumental, he had to carefully select which Biggie and Pac verses to use, in order to create the illusion that they were rapping about the same subject matter.
Dinero wants listeners to know he did this project as an homage to hip-hop culture and respects everyone who was involved with it.
"I want people to know that the work hard I put in on this tape should speak for itself. I respect everyone emcee who had a hand in making this happen, and I wanted the quality of the project to reflect them. It was my goal to make Watching Over The Throne to be undeniably dope."
