I didn't realise he was so critically acclaimed (just been looking at some reviews), I guess he has the potential. It's just my opinion then, he's not someone I can view as a pioneer of hip hop.
Hip hop as a collective has moved on from Gangsta/G Funk era. Drake in the future will definitely be viewed as a integral part of helping the shift along with Ye and perhaps Cudi.

To people who listen to hip hop maybe but to the casual listners?
Well not necessarily, hip hop isn't that shallow that it can only go in one direction, there's a plethora of different syles/sub genres in hip hop that don't draw inspiration from any of those rappers (Drake, Kanye, Cudi).
Plus there still is some great gangsta rappers from this generation who are quite big these days (Freddie Gibbs, Jay Rock, Boldy James)

Gibbs is decent. He's a rare type. Jay Rock is still underground. I've never heard of Boldy tbh. Mainstream hip hop (Not pop rappers just rappers signed to a label) are becoming more accessible. Take legends like Camel and Em both of them had more mainstream LP's. It's a shift away from the 90's. More rappers like Bob, Wiz etc.. are following the paths of Drake and Cudi.
Obviously there are exceptions, but to me the direction of hip hop is moving away from the 90's

Yeah to an extent, but there will always be a market for rap that doesn't try and incorporate pop accessibilty.
I agree though that the market for that type of rap is huge right now, I guess I just find it hard to admit because I'm not a fan, haha.
