New show will draw from the Native Tongues era of hip hop.
Deadline reports that Q-Tip -- Grammy-winner and founding member of hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest -- is partnering with Wolf of Wall Street co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill to develop and produce a scripted drama series loosely based on the rapper's musical career. More specifically, the show will draw inspiration from A Tribe Called Quest's involvement with the Native Tongues, a collective comprised of late '80s and early '90s hip hop artists known for their positive, Afrocentric lyrics.
Q-Tip's new show will reflect on the group's friendships and their impact on culture and today's music.
DiCaprio, a long-time friend of Q-Tip, will produce the show through his Appian Way production company. No writer has been announced yet, but the project is expected to get shopped around to networks starting next week.
