Young Thug let a lot of his people down during his interview with Bossip at the BET Hip Hop Awards. The city of Ferguson, MO is currently in upheaval following protests over the tragic shooting death of college bound teen Mike Brown.
The Atlanta rapper was asked his thoughts on Brown and the policing of black men in America.
“Leave that up with the critics and the laws,” he said. “We having fun, we iced out. We having money, that’s how we doing it.”
He then said it’s not in an artist’s place to speak on social issues.
His words drew swift backlash from the St. Louis community. A meme circulated throughout social media with stinging words reserved for the “Lifestyle” rapper.
“Since you don’t give a f-ck about us and our situation…Keep yo b-tch ass out the Lou! That money done went to yo head lil b-tch…This yo only ‘Warning’ f-ck boy…We still Show- Me State…Don’t make us show you,” the post read.
Thug attempted to make amends with the city by paying homage to Brown IG, writing, “I love BLACK People RIP #MIKEBROWN RIP #BENNIE!!!
