  • Is new rap killing the genre?

Ive had the pleasure to hear some of the greatest lyricist we have in rap. We're not entering a stage where the new generation either sound exactly the same or is so out there to be different it's unlistenable.

Lil Yachty, Lil Pump, XXXtension, Lil Uzi, 21 Savage. The it's goes on. These rappers have taken what Future, Travis Scott, Wayne in the lollipop era, Kanye in the 808 era, Kid Cudi did in the past and have over stayed there welcome. When Jay Z did the song DOA who knew what would happen afterwards.

the worst thing is that these rappers will just be throwaways. Will anyone look back and think what an amazing career these new rappers had? They're not in the industry to become the best, they only want to ride the new sound and leave rich.

Rap was always a contest to who can become the best and the competition is bleak. We have K Dot and whenever he brings out a new album we lose our minds but ten years ago he'd be like any other rapper.

even the more established rappers are the same. young Thug, Future, Migos, Travis Scott. They say the same stuff.

well as a dude who listens to all the rap ever made and is open to new sounds i can say that the genre is definitely being taken less seriously these days by the larger mainstream audience rap originated and is at its strongest when it was/is a protest against the injustices of the world or a way for artists to express themselves and their skills however its more prevalent nowadays for rap music to be background music to memes/instagram videos lol

but something that has always existed is feel good music ever since the inception of music its self people want music to turn up to and enjoy and i guess rap right now is definitely providing that for the masses so theres a positive

honestly, this new wave isn't making a as big a dent in hip-hop as your made to believe because hey sales talk always, J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake are the biggest sellers of the rap genre in this generation and guess what? their music is mostly deep, introspective or political this alone proves that the "damage" the so called new wave is doing is just exaggerated hyperbole.

also XXXTENTACTION has many dimensions to him and has limitless potential
Young Thug is doing nothing for hip-hop the guy is a meme and no one takes him as seriously as you people think
LIL Yachty makes positive music that is fun to listen to but has stated his no heavy hitter he just wants to make music and chill how can you hate that?
Lil Pump is a straight up meme and no one is taking him serious at all.......
Lil Uzi has a lot of potential and makes good and creative music
    21 Savage is irrelevant
    Migos is lame generic garbage
Future is a great artist and a legend straight up
Travis Scott is a kanye protege and isnt bad or good

oh and LIL WAYNE birthed all these mothafckas

It's turned me off from hip-hop. I've lost tons of interest over the last 6 months or so. I can't even name a song from a majority or those artists you listed.

But I've been able to explore different genres and it's given me a better taste of music. It's refreshing to hear an artist actually be able to sing, play an actual instrument, etc. Stuff that actually takes talent.

I'm also much more willing to support an artist from a different genre that takes the art of music seriously. Don't really see the point in supporting a hip-hop artist who will blow their money on the newest Ferrari, or blow it at the strip club and then proceed to brag about it in their songs.

hasn't turned me off per say....but definitely don't check for anything from these new people at all....only check for songs from the people i grew up to (wayne, kanye, jay, some em) and the better ones of the new gen like drake cole and kendrick.....only really new school guy besides those 3 i fuck with is tory lanez....other than that i honest to god have not heard one kodak black, lil uzi vert, lil yachty or 21 savage song, never plan on it either
