Simply because no one was harmonizing a their flow before them. And they were also one of the first rappers to rap fast as well.
They are probably the group that made it acceptable to sing in hip hop.

his production took hip hop to another level. The G-Funk era was a huge moment for hip hop.
The east coast had mostly the 2-3 different 5 second loops that repeated through the songs.
But Dr Dre made every single part of the song different, which changed the rap game completely.
Eminem
Songs like Kim and Stan were crazy creative. He mos def deserves to be mentioned in this thread.
Big L
Arguably the first punchline rapper, crazy punchlines and story telling was one of his strongest sides.
Also this new generation has Travis Scott, dude is very creative.
