Can't find the interview but after Birds in The Trap dropped he said he didn't list the features because he wanted the guests to be a surpise so that the first listen would be a bigger experience.

What J. Cole did has been standard in hip hop, you never list background vocalists, maybe if it's an up and coming artist you wanna push.
singing in the background of an artist, making their voice sound bigger is not the same as having the hook and a verse for yourself.

Shit goes for famous people too, Beyonce is a background vocalist on Pink + White by Frank Ocean, not listed as a feature. why not? she had no solo parts and was barely noticeable on the song, hence she's not a feature.

No one on Astroworld is credited as a feature in credits either. Which is why they are not features. If you have apple music on c3 no one is listed as a feature on trwck list but they are still credited as a feature. But astroworld no one is credited as a feature so sicko mode didnt count for drake on bilboard. there was articles about that
