I grow weary of reading page after page of conformist lyrical gloating - let's have some fun with the other side of rap.
The problem is, I'm not sure exactly how many aspiring producers we have here. I know Fredd does it, but I don't know if he's here. I know Steezy tries his hand at some beats too, but those are the only names that come to mind right now. Suffice to say, speak up if you are interested in this.
My idea is essentially a beat making contest...with a catch. In each round, a contestent supplies his opponent with an mp3 file (of some song - nothing ridiculous like 5 minutes of white noise). Using only samples taken from the given music file and any additional drum sounds (and bass and other instruments too - its up to you guys, let me know), the contestant creates a beat suitable for rapping over. The winning beat is determined both by the quality of the finished product and the difficulty of the given sample to work with. Sounds fun? I thought so. Hell, I'll even participate.
