Re: Mixtape: Through My Mind's Eye by MC_Crary
"MYKILL REVIEWS YOUR SHIT" starring YOUR MIXTAPE and of course MYKILL
================================================
I've watched this project blossom from the ends of our Kill or be Kill'T sessions, and let me just say after hearing the whole thing I am impressed. Not because you're down with LMI. Not because we work together. One thing I try to get people that listen to your music is to understand that below that voice, under that head lies the next lyrical threat to rap. It was a blast working on our collabo mixtape, because we were constantly pushing one another to come up with better material and make our product better. On this tape, you had no one to compete with except yourself, and at times it does seem like that competition breathed life into better verses, better lines, and better music overall. I hate to see what got cast-off from this...that's for sure.
LYRICS/FLOW /////============================
There are a lot of heart-felt, deep and engaging lyrics embedded in this project. When MAC first told me what he was working on, I was more than intrigued. But after he started leaking tracks to me and understood just what caliber of a project he was working on. This is his symphony. This is the real Barry McCrary, and it bleed through every single bar, every single hook.
FEATURES /////============================
myKill - That guy spits.
Noble - Slow'd, throw'd flow comes through perfectly.
Sentus - Question the quality of vocals here, but still a very strong feature for this tape on a very epic track.
Lil' BlanKo - DONT SLEEP. This dude is one of the best in The Stu'. Still waiting on that "Ill BlanKo" name change though...
STAND-OUT SONGS /////============================
Maggott's Brain - Love the rock intro. Check that delay effect, it gets in the way and shouldnt be as loud as your vocals. What song is this? I think it serves the overall feeling of the tape well, but there are some areas I think you could have populated with more vocals, speaking, etc. or you could have cut it off at a point.
R.A.E. - Very impactful track. I think you could go back and make the chorus stand out better, but still a great song. (On a side note, why the fuck wasnt I on this song!?)
Yvette - Soooo that's what Yvette is...Pretty f'n dope track man. still....(why wasnt I on this song too!?!)
No Smile - The best Lyrical track on the entire tape. This is why MC_Crary stands apart from his peers. He might not be the Studio's best punchline rapper, but when it comes to telling a great story verse after verse, he's the man.
Otherside - Wow. Didnt expect that.
Che Guevara - That beat is fiyah. Good social and political commentary on this one.
Fly Away (Zoom Zoom) - Great collab. Everyone really rides this beat like its nothing to them. A++ raps right here.
Expendablez - I was waiting to see all these people go in. The effect on Sentus' verse makes it sound kinda tight.
Fiendin' - Great track to just spit over... Check the beat volume though. All great bars slung across this one.
PRODUCTION /////============================
There are some parts, for instance the intro, where I can hear the mic static before you say anything. In these instances you have to ensure that that stuff like that doesnt happen, because it takes away from your overall quality. For every bit of vocals I record in FL studio, I go back and clear out all the dead space, to ensure there's not any noise before anything.
You can select some of the BEST beats that fit your style so fluidly, its like you do it effortlessly. Beat selection on this tape is amazing and it complements your flow and the mood of the tape very well. Concept wise a lot of things work well. There's no skits except for a intro, interlude, and outro that are all rapped on, which doesnt really take away from the product at all.
You aimed to create something that transcends your "run of the mill" Studio mixtape with a bunch of raps over beats and money, cars, hoes and that's what makes this tape stronger, more attractive.
====================================DRUMROOOOOLLLL...
OVERALL SCORE: 83 / 100
"Every single mixtape, MC_Crary is trying to break new ground and better define his space in rap. Through My Mind's Eye does this, because its not his usual sort of killing and maiming other rappers and people that might per chance get in his way. This tape exposes the inner-sanctum of MC_Crary's thoughts and allows you to see the man stripped down, piece by piece, and under the microscope. The production of this tape, a tape that could easily be MC_Crary's best, is beyond superb and the only thing that takes away from it are a few bumps from mastering. This expose of everything and anything MC_Crary is deliver flawlessly through all the elements in this tape, giving each listener a one-on-one taste of what is buried inside the man behind the lyrics head."

Aight first of all, didn't I tell that fuck to stay out of my threads? The intro track is a parliment funkadelic track of the same name. Seemed to fit perfectly tape. There was suppose to be more to go along with it. I was gonna rap more and include a little talking and such, but I couldn't come to terms with exactly how I wanted it. I was gonna have a feature on R.A.E but I wrote more than expected and I didn't feel like I wanted to cut any of the lyrics. And I'll let you in on something else, without Machete Muzik there would be no Through My Mind's Eye. You were my inspiration bro. And Sentus I'll get those lyrics to you soon.
