  • a question for all the aspiring emcees here

first of all let me say that i've been a member here for quite some time, but i've only opened the studio a few times and that was way back when i joined. after opening this forum yesterday i've realized there is a ton of raw talent on this site.

so, since i dabble with hip hop, mainly freestyling with friends, i want to be able to record when i want. what is a good. affordable microphone for use with a PC laptop? what kind of mic do you use? is it smart to go with a headphone/microphone hybrid?

i'm a little short on cash this week, so next week i plan on going to pick one up from best buy.

price? where did you get it? is it just a microphone or headphone/mic hybrid? you say it works well, but would you rather have something else? these are the things i need to know before buying one.

$99, a local music store. Microphone. Well obviously I would rather have something else because there's always something better but it gets good quality for it's price.

so you think i should head over to a guitar center (the closest thing to a quality music/instrument store) over something like a best buy? @mykill, that one that you use looks dope, but personally if i'm going to spend near that much money (which i'm not, because there's no point to since i'm just starting and learning the roped, recording-wise), i would want one that has a screen attatched.

Yes. My best buy didn't have shit yet my guitar center had tons of stuff. Much much better.

back when i got it, it was only $80. the price went up. by "screen" do you mean a pop filter? You have to get those separately. If you just want something to mess around with and learn on, get a run-of-the-mill wal-mart karaoke mic. I used that starting off just to get the feel of things and to practice. the quality is mid grade at best, but you only since $10 and have a mic that's better than your average PC mic.

eh, i'm definitely not buying a karaoke mic, haha, i think i'm a little past that point. have ya'll seen or heard any good reviews about the headphone/mic hybrid?

You're not going to get a quality "headphone mic hybrid". if you've got a limited price range, best to go with a snowball usb.
