Old School Freestyle/Cypher Kinda Beat

I do Cypher contest every month and this was going to be the beat for this month's cypher but I switched it out at the last minute for something with more variance

The beat is split into two sections which are essentially the same -- like I said, it's just supposed to be something for a quick two-part freestyle type of a thing, not like a full-on track; so for it is, just like a freeverse type of beat, I actually really like how it came out

This woulda been better if it was a little more "boom-bap". Good Nas style beat though... Nice composition and good variety. Stops are genuine and sound natural too. Melodies are on point as well. This is pretty dope!

Beat is dope. Has a funk-soul feeling to it. Flute was a nice touch I agree with mykill, good Nas sounding style, the influence is their but. To be honest as well, the "stuttering" at around 1:30 hurts the beat. Letting it flow would better imo.

I need to work on my boom-bap-abilities; really channeling that 9th wonder type vibe -- I've never really made what I would call a "boom-bap" beat that I really really liked but it's definitely something I want to try to capture; always got an eye out for the right sample but I think this one was a little too fast or like energetic for that boom-bap type thing; although maybe if I would have slowed it down it would have been dope

Thanks man -- had to put the weird break in the middle -- it's a bit awkward but hopefully people are able to work it naturally -- I just didn't want to have it be the same thing repeating twice so I kinda put that in there as like a "alright DJ bring that beat back" type thing -- but hopefully they don't make it sound so cheesy when people actually record to it haha
