Hope yall enjoy it! Extraordinary EP coming soon and "They Don't" single coming soon.
There has been much talk and anticipation associated with the release of "Live From Mars" by studio regular KA$H. There was a point a few months back where I thought it would not see the light of day, but out of the blue KA$H decided to drop the whole thing on like a sack of money. The singles for this album generate ample buzz around Tha Stu', but in the end I don't think the singles were able to carry the weight of this project and make it a classic. The opening track "Tonight" gives a good example of what kind of music to expect from the entire tracklist, but the track itself left no surprise moments or even had me nodding my head to the beat. Mixing on "Live From Mars" was great, but I think there were some holes on the mastering side of the tracks.. The concise tracklist was great. D.Will gave a pretty weak performance. I don't know if it was his actual singing or the mixing used in the beginning of "Too Far". I feel like there was great intention with this collection of material, but in the end it misses its mark. A lot of the songs go in the right direction, but they don't hold their weight enough and don't sound complete.
Songs to check out: No More (best track), Lowkey, Like I Do, Familiar, All In (eh, barely), Familiar, How it Feel
Skip these: Tonight, Too Far, Aint Enough, Make Ya
Overall Score:
If you're a fan of autotune, good punchlines, and melodic beats - "Live From Mars" is your ticket. Having finished my initial listen today, I think some of the problems with this tape comes from the mixing. With some additional mixing work, most of the songs on here that I didnt like would have sounded way better and the improved production and mastering would have made the concept come out better.
