i use mixpad by NCH software the free version, i use a rock band microphone, and I'm using my laptop. I usually freestyle for 60 seconds straight, stop the recording, think of a nice 4 bars to start with, and then I freestyle another 60 seconds. I do this again and again until it's long enough. then I go back and listen 100 times so I can fix/catch what I have to.
