They could be far, far worse considering you're just starting (think Uzzi bad). Right now they're simplistic and lack variety; however, the drum combinations you've chosen work nicely together. I advise you get some VST plug-ins so that you can move beyond the pre-packaged shit that fl studio comes with. Some nice plug-ins to look into would be Nexus, Hypersonic, and Albino (these may all be made by the same company, Steinburg - not sure).

They're probably using a VST plugin. I can't really say without seeing it.

Like that, where it can have that many sounds open and it looks like a grid and you just click em through :/

            Re: my beats

I see. It would appear that you have no understanding of Fl Studio whatsoever.

That "grid" (which is actually called the playlist) is a collection of musical patterns that are essentially painted on to a timeline of the song. When you open a new Fl Studio file, you may notice that each line is labelled "Pattern 1 (or 2 or 3 etc.)". You create your song by assembling a bunch of these patterns. To add information to a pattern, you must open it in the step sequencer, which, along with all these other panels I'm mentioning, can be brought up in the View menu. Your step sequencer will show you the instruments or samples available to your project. You can insert new instruments or samples by either finding something you like using the browser, right clicking and opening in a new channel (channel = instrument, sample) or by simply right clicking in your step sequencer and adding a new channel.

                Re: my beats

Shift click on the pattern names in the playlist to label them (this is purely to help you, though, it doesn't have any effect on the music itself). I think that when you say "make it super small" you are confusing the playlist with a piano roll. Using a piano roll is just another way to add notes to a pattern.

I don't know what you're referring to. You're either talking about the Piano Roll screen or the fact that he's maximized his playlist by double clicking on the heading bar.
