Other information about the album:
SPOILER- The first thing Nicki said when talking about her third album was back in November 2012, when she was promoting the re-release of her second studio album called Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re-Up. She said she was going to start to work on the third album soon, she received some beats but didn't record any songs yet and that the album would drop in 2013. The album would be a continuation of The Re-Up. She did a Q&A on Twitter in which she confirmed again that the third album would be a continuation of The Re-Up and when being asked if she was planning on making more pop music she replied with 'No'.
After a long silence on the album, probably due to Nicki being busy with American Idol and after that with shooting the movie 'The Other Woman', Nicki talked about the album again in April 2013 when she was being interviewed by MTV for the release of the video for her new single 'High School (feat. Lil Wayne). Nicki spoke about how she was focusing on hip-hop/rap with this new album. She experimented with pop music on her second album that was never something she wanted to continue. When Nicki did an interview at Hot 97 in May, with Peter Rosenberg, she told them she was going to feed the real core rap fans and the album would, unlike her second album, focus on hip-hop music. A lot of features followed and Nicki being busy with her clothing line, her drink Myx and her second perfume Minajesty, Nicki confirmed in November 2013 she would really, really start working on the album now and would lock herself away for a while. She said she was done with pop music and that she didn't see this album as something she already did but as 'next level'. At the end of the year in 2013, she dropped a freestyle 'Boss Ass Bitch (remix)' in which she said she was 'in album mode'. Nicki stayed very secretive of the album in the months following. In January she dropped a remix to Danny Glover.
Then in February Nicki dropped her first single, which turned out to be a buzz track that was also going to be on the YM compilation album 'Rise Of An Empire' called Lookin' Ass Nigga, or Lookin' Ass. Along with the release, the video was released too. The song was a hardcore rap song, causing controversy due to the cover featuring Malcolm X and the use of the 'N'-word in it. The video featured Nicki looking completely different, wearing her own natural hair for the first time in years. In radio interviews for the promotion of the song, Nicki confirmed the album was going to be called 'The Pink Print', the album wasn't going to have a release date anytime soon, that she would announce the release date when she lived with the album for a long time, that she was taking her time with the album so that it won't be rushed and she was going for 'timeless, truthful hip-hop music'.
During interviews for the promotion of The Other Woman, Nicki said that the latest songs were all hip-hop because those had been the songs she had been writing for the album but that there were other types of music on the album too but in no way there would be another 'Super Bass' or 'Starships'. The album would be very personal, telling her story of the last two years and addressing things she had never addressed before.
After two street singles, Chi-Raq (feat. Lil Herb) and Yasss Bish (feat. Soulja Boy), both released on Soundcloud and performances at Powerhouse LA and Summer Jam, Nicki released the lead single of the album called 'Pills N Potions'. The song turned out to be an unexpected departure from the all hip-hop sound, being a pop/hip-hop ballad. During the release of the song Nicki finally gave us some info on the album, saying she would never label her music anymore, the album would remind people why they fell in love with Nicki Minaj, saying she wasn't gonna have any of the pop sound of the second album but not abandoning pop on purpose, she would just make good music whatever the genre is. When explaining the title of the album, she said it was a reference to Jay-Z's Blueprint album, saying she saw the album a blueprint for female rappers, telling that she's that confident about the album.
In July she confirmed on twitter the album was done for 90% and she was putting the songs in order.
(huge summary, still left some things out but it gives a pretty good overview of what we know of the album)
