Overall, I would say that Breaking Bad has a more professional feel to it, and the whole series feels more balanced and well-constructed. Most importantly, it keeps on getting better and ends on an insane high - something Dexter couldn't do. When I had watched the first 2-3 seasons, I thought to myself "This is a really good show, but people are hyping it way to much up". Then Seasons 4 and 5 came, and I knew exactly what people were talking about when they said that BB was like no other TV show. It reaches an insane level of flawless and insanely well done television that I have never experienced before.
That being said, when Dexter is at its best, it's just as good (if not better to some extent), as Breaking Bad. It is all a matter of which type of series you prefer, they are very different, but I will still say you cannot argue that when Dexter is at its best it's up there with BB, but as a whole BB is much better, since Dexter declined from season 5 and onward, ending at its lowest low.
