is there a difference between 320kbps mp3 and iTunes 256kbps m4a.

I'm not really familiar with iTunes & m4a but as far as I know m4a is using a different encoder than mp3 which compresses the quality
256kbps m4a ~ 320bkps mp3

Aight props...because I download all of my music from iTunes....I only have a few 320 mixtapes...so I wanted to know if 320 was better...
