And it doesn't matter if the novel is about historical individual or made up person, directors and screen writers give themselves too much liberty nowadays and they don't stay true to the material that made it successful in the first place.

It is definitely woke, because otherwise you are telling me that there is NO ACTOR in the entire world who could be a good fit for Snape and still have lore accurate look? I don't believe that :'D

If skin color is irrelevant to the story and we focus on childrens novel, then sure let's make Pocahontas, Moana or Mulan white - we shouldn't, because their ethnicity and skin color is part of the lore.

I'm not saying the TV show will be bad because of it, I believe he will act well, but I still consider it trying to be woke, because of last how many years of producers/directors doing that (snow-white most recent example).
It is an adaptation of an entirely fictional novel. It isn't a question of Lore. The skin colour of the fictional Snape character is completely irrelevant to the story. The ethnicities of Pocahontas, Moana or Mulan are all relevant to those stories. Mulan is a Chinese story, Pocahontas was a real person, Moana is set in the Pacific islands inspired by their culture. Snape being black in HP has absolutely zero affect on what he does in that story nor is it relevant to who his character is.

You talk about Snow White, the girl literally looks like the cartoon version ffs.

It has been completely normal throughout modern history for people of all ethnicities to play any role on stage, from greek plays to shakespeare. But now in the pat ten years it's become ordinary for people to complain about "wokeness" whenever they see a non-white character cast in a role previously played by or depicted as white in another adaptation. Like get a grip, it's ridiculous.

It has as much impact on the story as Harry's Eyes not being green in the movie or Voldemort's not being red. None whatsoever.

Sure, I understand your point of view. People complain (myself included) not purely because of a non-white character cast in a role that is depicted in lore by white person, but because they don't stop at that, they push other narratives as well, they switch the story, they change everything to be "modern"...

      Also:
"You talk about Snow White, the girl literally looks like the cartoon version ffs."

In what world does Rachel look exactly like snow white who's name literally means she is white as snow.

But okay, let's see if Snape being black will have no impact on the story - I think it will because of Snape background, they will most likely connect his past (being bullied, misunderstood, forced to prove himself) to him being black. So I'm not as confident as you are that it will have no impact on the story

If you want to see what actual propaganda looks like look at Israel, stop letting these retard degenerate right wing dick heads on the internet determine your world view.
        Why are you so demeaning?
You think propaganda is always obvious? What do you think the entertainment industry is?
Throughout history artists/entertainers/personlaities have been hired by the higher ups to further push their agenda.
Also creating drama to disturb us from whats really going on.

They made Snape black not because they want to show people who aren't white, but with the purpose of creating racial tension. They know what they are doing. They knew it would be controversial and create meaningless conflict.
Divide and conquer. And here we are. You attack me and assume I am on the side of your opposition with an insulting language.

I'm not insulting you I'm insulting these foolish beliefs so many people have nowadays because it's ridiculous and deserves to be insulted.

This belief you're expressing is like a symptom of what you're describing. Because of all this culture war bs it can't just be that the actor got the role because he's actually a good actor and fits the role regardless of ethnicity, it must be because the producers are trying to stoke racial tension and so hired a black actor just because he's black. So then people say that they are against the stoking of racial division but in reality its just people just attacking actors for not being white and accusing every non white actor of being a 'dei hire' etc. So in response to the supposed stoking of racial division they just express actual racial hatred whilst saying that they are just against propaganda - not seeing that they are literally being influenced by propaganda. It's just ridiculous.

It's not like there are black actors being cast to play Napoleon, Caesar, Charlemagne etc.... It's Harry Potter characters, the little mermaid, disney princesses. Trying to defend as reasonable people who are upset because of things like the snow white actor's skin is not being white enough or that the little mermaid in live action being black is stealing a white character from their children is just ridiculous and insidious. It's borderline replacement theory stuff.

I think that the children for the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione were chosen quite well.
